And with calm sections between canyons, Lake Powell offers ideal conditions for learning. For those looking to ski instead, the long, straightaways allow room to slalom back and forth.
Kayaking Through Slot Canyons
For travelers seeking peaceful solitude far from crowds, paddling a kayak into Lake Powell’s tucked-away slot canyons can’t be beat. As a guide, I often lead small groups away from busy areas – the reward is having these hidden gems all to ourselves.
Gliding through narrow, twisting corridors in an inflatable kayak is an amazing way to experience the natural sculpture of slot canyons firsthand. Sections like the gulleys in Antelope Canyon aren’t accessible to motorized boats. As your paddle dips silently into crystal waters, the only sound is the occasional echo as you drift through these secluded corridors.
Cliff Jumping
For the ultimate thrill, cliff jumping into Lake Powell’s deep waters is a heart-pounding rush. Some of my favorite spots are locations like The Chains – a remote area with cliffs perfect for braver travelers. Here, travelers can safely take the plunge from heights ranging from 10 feet up to 30 feet or more.
Leaping from these rugged cliffs into the lake’s cool waters will get your adrenaline pumping! Part of my job guiding tours is assessing jump sites for safety and giving cliff-jumping advice.
